Smartphone new model presentation held by China Xiaomi for global. Among them, two models, "Redmi Note 11" and "Redmi Note 11S", were released as a surprise.
Both models have a screen size of 6.43 inches, which is more modest than the 11 Pro series announced at the same time, and they do not support 5G communication, but the feature is that they are affordable enough to overturn that point.
The dollar-denominated price is $ 249 to $ 299 for the higher 11S (the former has 6GB of RAM / 64GB of storage, the latter has 8GB / 128GB).
11 no mark in the above photo is from $ 179 to $ 229 (4GB / 64GB for the former, 6GB / 128GB for the latter).
The main body color is the black “graphite gray” and the deep blue “twilight blue” that are common to both models. In addition, each has its own color, the 11S is a white “Pearl White”, and the 11Muji is a bluish purple gradation “Star Blue”.
Both models use an organic EL panel with FHD + (1080 dots on the short side) resolution and a maximum of 90Hz. The battery capacity is 5000mAh, and it supports fast charging up to 33W.
The 11S also has a 108-megapixel (108MP) main camera (50 million pixels for 11 MUJI), and the installed SoC is MediaTek's "Helio G96", the same as 11 Pro MUJI, which was announced at the same time. 11 MUJI is also equipped with "Snapdragon 680", a fairly fast model for this price range.
To be honest, I also get the impression that this model has a higher cost performance than the Redmi 11 Pro series that was announced at the same time. In particular, 11 MUJI has a fairly strong impact that "a smartphone with a 90Hz organic EL screen starts at $ 179", although RAM and storage are suitable.
For both 11S and 11Mujirushi, Rakuten's logo is included in the planned carriers introduced at the presentation. This is also a point that deserves a lot of attention.
The 11S 108MP camera uses Samsung's "Isocell HM2" image sensor, the same as the high-end model 11 Pro series. In addition to its relatively large size of 1/1.52 inch (approximately 0.66), the "9-in-1 pixel binning" technology that combines 9 pixels into 1 pixel at standard resolution and can be used as a sensor with a pixel pitch of 2.1 μm, etc. It enables shooting with reduced noise even at night.
In addition, the rear side adopts a "3 + 1" configuration that adds an 8-megapixel ultra-wide angle, a 2-megapixel macro, and a 2-megapixel depth sensor. It has basically the same configuration as the "Redmi Note 11 Pro" announced at the same time, including the main image sensor.
11 MUJI also gives up the resolution of the main camera on the rear side to 50 million pixels, but the configuration is based on the same 3 + 1 module as the 11S. Considering the price, the pixel count itself is also at a sufficiently high level. Of course, the image quality of a camera is not determined only by the number of pixels, but since Xiaomi's image processing program has recently improved its image quality, it seems likely that it will produce a picture that cannot be underestimated.
The display panel, which is another selling point, is a specification common to both models. The screen size is 6.43 inches and the resolution is 2400 x 1080. Organic EL with a refresh rate of up to 90Hz. The sampling rate of the touch panel also supports 180Hz.
Other specifications are also at a high level, and the color gamut covers DCI-P3. The brightness is up to 700 nits (up to 1000 nits when playing HDR sources), which is comparable to the high-end models. The front camera is a punch hole type. Both models have a 16-megapixel specification.
It is surprising that such a panel was installed even with 11 Muji, which starts at the $ 100 range.
Supports up to 33W for fast charging, which Xiaomi puts effort into. As expected, the maximum power is half compared to the 67W of the 11 Pro series, but considering the price, it can be said that it is more than enough to call it a "specification beyond its class."
Of course, an AC adapter is also included in the package. Since the main unit is inexpensive, it can be said that it is a more pleasant consideration compared to high-end models for models in the price range where the cost of the AC adapter is relatively high. It is also a point that the battery capacity is 5000mAh, which is the standard level of recent years.
As for SoC, 11S is for MediaTek's latest middle range "Helio G96". It has the same specifications as the top model 11 Pro.
11 MUJI is equipped with Qualcomm's "Snapdragon 680". This is a variation of the Snapdragon 695 used in 11 Pro 5G that can be called a non-5G compatible version, and is the latest generation product announced by Qualcomm in October 2021.
Both models seem to be able to say that their abilities are solid, as they are enhanced versions of the proven SoC in the current generation.
In a sense, the point of attention that is more than SoC is that both models use LPDDR4X type for RAM and UFS 2.2 type for storage connection.
In products in this price range, even if the SoC is expensive, RAM and storage may be relatively slow variations, but both models are high-speed types that can bring out the performance of the SoC side.
The initial introduction OS is equipped with Android 11-based Xiaomi extended version "MIUI 13". The body size is the same for both models, 73.87 x 159.87 x 8.09mm (width x height x thickness) in the vertical state, and the body weight is 179g. In addition, biometric authentication supports both the fingerprint sensor provided on the side and face authentication.
Dual SIM slots. Since the official specification is "Dual SIM + microSD", it seems to be a type that can be used simultaneously instead of "selection of SIM and microSD for one slot" (Note that the 11 Pro series has "SIM 1 + Hybrid ( SIM or MicroSD)”, which can be read that it is a different specification).
In this way, the Redmi Note 11S and 11Mujirushi are products in the price range that can be called low-end in the United States and Japan, but with greatly enhanced equipment such as displays and camera specifications, exactly like the Redmi series.
As introduced at the beginning, from the point of view of "bargain beyond the price" of the Redmi series, it is a model that makes you feel more spirit than the higher 11 Pro series.
In particular, the price of 11 Muji starting at $ 179 is likely to be less than 20,000 yen in Japan in the case of Xiaomi. The fact that a product in that price range will be equipped with a 90Hz organic EL display is fully conceivable as a game changer in the display of low-end smartphones.
And as I introduced at the beginning, I would like to pay attention to the fact that Rakuten is included as a sales carrier. Rakuten Mobile, which focuses on low-priced smartphones, seems to be able to pay attention to sales strategies.
