The SIM card for DoCoMo's new rate plan "ahamo", which I applied online on the reception start date on March 26, has finally arrived after waiting for more than two weeks.
The customer system failed on the 27th, probably because the monthly charge of 2970 yen (including tax) up to 20GB became a hot topic and the application was flooded. The reception work may not have caught up. The e-mail notifying the shipment of the SIM card stated that the "application date and time" was April 3rd. It took more than a week from the time I applied to the time it was accepted. Then I waited another week for the SIM card to ship. The author was a new contract, so it's still good, but it seems that MNP people were worried that the MNP reservation number would not expire, and there was a warning on the site.
I made a new contract because I have an Apple Watch attached to the DoCoMo line that I am currently using. At ahamo, I gave up switching because I couldn't use the "one number service" that allows me to receive calls with Apple Wach. I applied for ahamo as a sub line while keeping the docomo line, but thanks to that, the procedure was easy, such as being able to pass the identity verification documents despite the new contract.
On the other hand, it was a little annoying. The first is the d account. Since only one phone number can be registered in one account, I had to create another account. When there are multiple accounts, the d points associated with them are also distributed, but this seems to be combined into one by "d POINT CLUB membership integration".
The second is the d card. If you settle DoCoMo's communication costs with d Card Gold, you will receive 10% d points. It is said that this 10% benefit can be received even at ahamo. I was pleased to hear that, but unfortunately only one line received the benefits. DoCoMo has higher communication costs and has benefits such as mobile phone compensation, but from September onwards, d Card Gold members will receive the benefit of increasing data by 5GB every month. Since the data addition fee of ahamo is 550 yen per 1GB, it is worth 2750 yen. This is pretty annoying.
Now that the long-awaited SIM card has arrived, it's finally time to open the service. Replace the SIM of "iPhone 12 Pro Max", start the dedicated application installed in advance, and log in using the reception number received by e-mail at the time of application. I confirmed the phone number, specified the e-mail address to receive the reception confirmation e-mail, clicked the "Open" button, and it opened easily.
In addition to opening procedures, you can check usage fees, check data usage fees, subscribe to additional services such as content, and perform various procedures with this ahamo dedicated app. There is also a support function that allows you to make various inquiries via chat, but as far as I checked, chat has been busy and unreachable. This seems to have to wait patiently, but when will the congestion disappear?
I went to DoCoMo's 5G area and did a speed test. I replaced the SIM and tested "5G Gigaho Premier" alternately with the contracted DoCoMo line, but the average of 10 speed tests was 604 Mbps for DoCoMo / 53 Mbps for Up, while ahamo The result was almost the same as 597 Mbps for downlink and 52 Mbps for uplink. It was confirmed that ahamo can use 5G just like DoCoMo.
In addition, when I performed the speed test about 10 times, started the ahamo application again, and checked the amount of data, it was already melted by about 4 GB. I'm planning to do tethering from now on, so I'm worried that it will be used up by the end of the month. After all, it may be better to register the ahamo line for d Card Gold and select 5GB increase.
