A rare existence that combines romance and efficiency.
Gaming blankets, gaming masks, and other gaming XX have recently appeared like Ogiri, which means that more and more people are enjoying the game. It may be related to the fact that the time spent at home has increased due to telework.
The number of people playing live games is increasing, but when we want to distribute it, we need various software and tools. Even at work, I have more opportunities to launch video conference software and browsers ... multiple software. While enjoying the game, do various activities with multi-software. It may be such an era now.
The curved wide gaming display "HUAWEI MateView GT 34-inch Standard Edition (MateView GT)" is likely to pierce such a scene. The large 34-inch panel is curved and has an ultra-wide aspect ratio of 21: 9. The refresh rate also supports up to 165Hz.
This time, we asked KIKKUN-MK-II, an artist and game commentator, to use "MateView GT" in multiple situations such as music production and game commentary. He said, "I like being able to complete all the work on one screen" and "I have a romance anyway." I'm curious about that.
KIKKUN-MK-II (Kikkun Mark Two)
A member of the 4-member game commentary and music production unit "MSS Project (MSSP)". In 2009, he posted a live video of "Halo 3: ODST" on Nico Nico Douga, and since then he has continued his live activities while leading the movement of the live video. KIKKUN-MK-II is in charge of the main composer of the group, and is in charge of guitar and vocals at live performances. Characterized by Chunibyo talk.
── While KIKKUN-MK-II is active as an artist, he continues to broadcast live games on YouTube and Nico Nico Douga. You said that you started playing the game in 2009 to let people know about your music activities. Can you tell us about that?
KIKKUN-MK-II (hereinafter referred to as KIKKUN): We at MSSP have always had a strong ad-lib color, and we don't have much planning in our activities and way of life. For example, even if we all shoot a video for distribution, we don't make a script, we decide only a certain outline and talk freely. I've been doing that for 12 years.
──The ad lib in 2012 is amazing ... Is that glue still the same?
KIKKUN: It doesn't change. The only thing that changed was that I lived in my parents' house in Hokkaido, but now I move to Tokyo and live alone in Tokyo. It's easier to go to shoot and work, but what I'm doing hasn't changed.
──There is a lighter footwork in Tokyo, isn't it?
KIKKUN: It's an era where you can connect anywhere on the Internet, but I think it's important for you to move yourself after all.
When we started working on Nico Nico Douga, I think I was really looking forward to the Internet, and I think I enjoyed the feeling that I was connected to Japan and anywhere in the world. It's true that our members are Aroma, but I didn't know their faces for about half a year after I started working (laughs). The reason for the encounter was online, but there are still many people who have never actually met.
There were actually things I could do by moving to Tokyo, so I think the difference between activities on the internet and moving myself is interesting.
──This time, I thought that the newly released "MateView GT" would be a good match for KIKKUN, who is doing various work including games. First of all, how was it mainly used in games?
KIKKUN: After all it is good that it is curved. I think it's perfect for playing the game because you can immerse yourself in the world view.
──By the way, which title is your favorite game?
KIKKUN: I posted the live video for the first time in "Halo 3: ODST", but the latest work "Halo Infinite" will be released soon (just before the release at the time of the interview). Now that multiplayer is open to the public for free, I'm playing with it as a trial, but after all "Halo" is a god game. I'm not very good at FPS games, but I like the sci-fi world view. The "Halo" series has been around for over 10 years. It's a romance, it's just cool.
──Are there any other things you realized?
KIKKUN: The curved and "feeling of being surrounded" resembles the cockpit of a spaceship. I felt romance there. At home, I stack three 29-inch displays vertically and put equipment around them to make it look like a cockpit, but I thought that "MateView GT" could further enhance the "cockpit feeling".
──Three 29-inch pieces vertically should already be quite large as a work space. How was "MateView GT" compared to that?
KIKKUN: I thought it wasn't an obstacle even though it was large, probably because it was curved. Since the horizontal spread is suppressed, it seems that it can be placed as it is in my current PC environment. Monitor speakers are placed on both ends of the desk, so it's difficult to place a very large display, but it seems like it's curved.
──Did you feel the high refresh rate of 165Hz when using the display?
KIKKUN: When I was playing FPS like "Halo", I knew that. I don't play as severely as professional gamers, but I feel that the sense of incongruity I had when playing on displays has disappeared, or that there is a difference in smoothness. The display I'm using now should be 60Hz, so I wonder if that's the difference.
Also, it's good that the stand doesn't get in the way. The feet of the display are refreshing. It can be easily moved and has a stylish impression. The graphics are also beautiful.
── Mr. KIKKUN is also playing live games and making music, so I would like to see the feeling of use there, but before that, what kind of software and equipment are you using, environmental aspects Could you tell me.
KIKKUN: OBS (Open Broadcaster Software) is used for game distribution. Before this software came out, I used to encode 100GB of shooting data while I was sleeping. When an error occurred, I tried again and could not post the video of the day. Thanks to OBS, that's no longer the case.
I've been using Cubase Pro DAW software for music production. The equipment is RME's audio interface (equipment for outputting high-quality sound from a PC), GENELEC speakers, and two keyboards. Recently, I've been trying various things to change the amp simulator (equipment for listening to the sound of electric guitar with headphones), and I'm using Neural DSP's "Quad Cortex".
──I saw that "Quad Cortex" was also acclaimed on Twitter. That's cool, isn't it?
KIKKUN: When it comes to the next live tour, this is all right. The sound is really good. Even though it's small, it's a lump of technology, and if it sounds bad when used, I think it's my responsibility (laughs).
──It seems that you are enjoying new technologies and gadgets, as you said, as if you were making it look like a cockpit in your work environment.
KIKKUN: I love technology very much. For example, in the world of guitars, the technology revolution is happening almost every year, and there are more and more interesting things such as those with effectors mounted on the guitars and those with built-in amp simulators.
At the same time as following the trend of technology, we are also paying attention to the appeal of analog. I also have the idea of incorporating a small analog effector (a device that changes the sound of an instrument in various ways) into the guitar itself. I really like the flow of analog and digital fusion.
──DAW software is often used by stretching it horizontally, and looking at it like this, it seems to be very compatible with landscape displays.
KIKKUN: That's right. But in the end, I spend the longest time on the internet. The graphics are beautiful and easy to see, so I was more impressed with the comfort of googled work. I think it's important not to get tired from normal work.
It's quite horizontally long, so it's easy to work at the same time, such as having a web conference while searching with a browser. Easy to use when recording a game while playing the game. With multiple displays, the boundary between the displays may feel strange, so it's easy to use because it fits all on one display.
──It's a point that can be differentiated from multi-display.
KIKKUN: I have a multi-display environment, but I want to complete it with one display as much as possible. I only display what I glance at from time to time on the upper display, and basically I try to see the main display where my neck doesn't get tired.
──There is a certain aspect that there is a difference in visibility due to the arrangement.
KIKKUN: It makes sense to be curved and long sideways. In addition to making games and making music, I also saw Netflix, but the images are beautiful and surrounded by displays, so it feels like a movie theater, which is also great. I don't know how it works, but it always feels like the display is at a certain distance to my eyes. I felt that my eyes were not tired easily.
── Certainly. If you have a large flat display, you will see the edges at an angle, but the curved shape makes it easier to see at a more natural angle, isn't it?
── From the perspective of Mr. KIKKUN, what kind of existence was this display called "MateView GT" in summary?
KIKKUN: Anyway, romance. A display full of romance. I think people who like science fiction will come a lot. There are occasional arcade-like displays in arcades, but you can enjoy that game-like feeling at home.
──A display that feels like a game arcade, it's absolutely fun!
KIKKUN: Actually, I think this is the most important factor, but I feel good using this display. The tension goes up. It's really important to raise one's feelings, so if you can't improve your work efficiency, it might be a good idea to get something that raises your tension. It is also excellent in the realistic aspect of work efficiency. You have both romance and work efficiency.
──What kind of person do you think it is recommended for?
KIKKUN: I think people say that their current life is somehow boring. I think that if the tension goes up, it will have a positive effect on everything. I also choose the equipment depending on whether or not the tension rises, and it would be fun to play an instrument that makes me feel good just by decorating it.
At the end, a very emo word came out, and it was a gin.
I think the PC display is an item that is unexpectedly difficult to replace, but it doesn't break easily. Ultimately, you can see products of that genre depending on whether they are cool or raise the tension. This is a unique perspective of KIKKUN-MK-II, who has continued multi-faceted activities while valuing the glue on the spot. I'm completely familiar with the style of MSSP. The truth is that if you get excited, you can do any kind of work that feels good.
While having a romantic element, work efficiency is also perfect because it is large and wide. The "HUAWEI MateView GT 34-inch Standard Edition" was a truly multi-purpose display that was addicted to a variety of uses, from games to everyday use.
