The strongest Windows 10 Mobile smartphone "HP Elite x3" this fall and winter

Written By mobilephonebrand

The number of smartphones equipped with Windows 10 Mobile has increased rapidly this year. Unfortunately, most of them are "Snapdragon 4xx" or less that are not compatible with Continuum, or "Snapdragon 617" equipped with Wi-Fi compatible with Continuum. Only Acer "Liquid Jade Primo" equipped with "Snapdragon 808", which was introduced before, can support Continuum by wire.

However, when expanding the range to Android-adopted machines, the Snapdragon 808 is not high-end these days, and the appearance of the strongest "Snapdragon 820"-equipped SoC currently in circulation has been awaited.

Originally, Windows 10 Mobile has fewer apps than iOS and Android, and its strength is in Continuum, which can be handled like a PC (although it is still insufficient). It goes without saying that a model that can operate this function without stress was desired.

The HP "Elite x3" appeared there. The existence itself has been known for quite some time, but it finally started selling in September. Now you can try the actual machine. Personally, I have touched on it every time I have the opportunity, but it feels like "Finally!"

As you can see from the specification table, it's the last one. The content is as if to say, "Do you need anything else?" The main specifications are as follows.

SoC is Snapdragon MSM8996 and Qualcomm's Snapdragon 820, configured with an Adreno 530 GPU. The CPU is quad-core and clocks up to 2.2GHz. There are also Snapdragon 821 above, but it is currently the strongest class as a SoC in circulation. The memory is 4GB of LPDDR4, and the storage is 64GB/eMMC. It also supports microSD. If you look only here, it's no longer a PC spec, it's not a smartphone content.

The display is a 5.96-inch low-reflection coating 2,560 x 1,440 dots (WQHD) AMOLED. 494ppi is pretty high density. Gorilla Glass 4 is used for the cover glass, and it is resistant to scratches.

The network is IEEE 802.11ac compatible wireless LAN, Bluetooth 4.0+LE. The SIM slot is nano SIM x 2. However, one is exclusive with microSD.

[Apology and Correction] Although it was supposed to support IEEE 802.11ad when it first appeared, it is no longer compatible. We apologize and will correct it.

Please see the table for the communication method, but it supports not only the main LTE bands but also carrier aggregation. VoLTE is also available on the au network.

The interface is USB 3.0 Type-C, 3 built-in microphones that support noise reduction, stereo mini combo jack (3.5mm 4 poles), B&O stereo speakers (maximum 1.2W), 16 million pixel LED flash rear camera ( PDAF, f / 2.2, 6 lenses), 8 million pixel front camera, 2.4 million pixel infrared camera (for iris authentication), NFC, fingerprint reader. USB Type-C supports OTG, both host/client modes, and display output via USB-C.

The strongest Windows 10 Mobile this autumn/winter Smartphone

The sensors include ambient light, proximity, acceleration, gyro, digital compass, pressure, magnetism, and GPS (Standalone, A-GPS).

The body size is 83.5 x 161.8 x 7.8 mm (width x depth x thickness) and weighs about 194 g. Built-in 4,150mAh lithium polymer battery, driving time is 500 hours standby, 33 hours talking, 13 hours video playback (720P, 200nit), 14 hours web browsing. In addition, it also supports wireless charging (WPC (Qi) / PMA dual mode) (Qi has been confirmed to work with a charger on hand).

In addition, it complies with IP67 level dustproof and waterproof design and MIL-STD 810G test. Security is also on the table, and in many ways it can be said that it is a concept that is targeted for businesses.

The tax-excluded price is 77,800 yen (79,800 yen for the "premium package" with headphones), but it is currently on sale for 69,800 yen as an early-earning campaign until the end of October. Considering the contents, the campaign price of 69,800 yen is quite a bargain. The “desk dock” described later is 12,000 yen.

Front. Power LED on the upper left of the panel, earphone & speaker in the center, 8 million pixel front camera and iris authentication camera on the right side. Software navigation buttons. The back of the speaker is under the panel. 16 million pixel rear camera on the center. Below that is the flash and fingerprint reader. Connector under the HP logo. The battery cannot be removed from the top/left side. 3.5mm combo jack on the top side. Nano SIM / microSD slot bottom side / right side on the left side. USB 3.0 Type-C on the bottom side. Power button and volume ± button desk dock on the right side (front / left side). Power LED under the front center. USB 3.0 Type-C on the top side. Nothing on the left side. 455g desk dock (rear/right side) by actual measurement. Lock port on the right side. Attachment for cable connection of power input, Ethernet, DisplayPort, USB 3.0 x 2, USB 3.0 Type-C desk dock on the back. The top of the desk dock can be easily removed (fixed with a magnet), and the attachment and cable that can be connected to the cable instead of being placed directly are included. The AC adapter for the desk dock. Size about 90 x 35 x 25mm (same), weight 185g. The plug is Mickey type weight. Comparison with 195g iPhone 7 Plus by actual measurement. The panels are 5.5-inch and about 6-inch, so the footprint is wider. The slightly thick

housing is based on black and silver, creating a very heavy atmosphere. The panel is 5.96 type and weighs about 194g, which is quite large and heavy for a smartphone. Whether or not this point is permissible depends on the application and individual differences.

On the front, there is a power LED that glows green when fully charged on the upper left of the panel, a microphone and speaker in the center, and an 8-megapixel front camera and an iris authentication camera on the right. Speakers under the panel. Navigation buttons are software. The speaker part with the B&O logo is really cool.

On the back, there is a 16-megapixel rear camera in the upper center. Below that is the flash and fingerprint reader. There is a connector under the HP logo. 3.5mm combo jack on the top side, Nano SIM / microSD slot on the left side. USB 3.0 Type-C on the bottom side. The power button and volume ± button are placed on the right side.

The 5.96-inch 1,440 x 2,560-dot AMOLED display uses a low-reflection coating, so it's good with little reflection. The brightness, color development, contrast, and viewing angle are also sufficient, and the color development is particularly vivid and beautiful with the primary colors unique to AMOLED. Also, since it is 494ppi, there is no jaggy, and fonts are displayed very smoothly. It would not be an exaggeration to say that this panel is top-notch.

No noise or vibration, of course. There is no problem at all with heat generation, mainly the upper half becomes slightly warm when used for a long time.

B&O crowned sound works in stereo when in horizontal position. Unlike the iPhone 7 Plus, one side is facing outward, and both are facing forward, so the balance is good. I played the songs and MVs that I usually listen to, but I had the impression that the maximum 1.2W (depending on the recording level of the source) did not come out, so I would like more power. However, although it is a kamaboko range, it has a harsh sound.

Compared to the Lightning/35mm conversion adapter of the iPhone 7 Plus, the maximum output from the 3.5mm is lower than the [Volume -] button twice, but the iPhone 7 Plus has a rather thin line ( Delicate?), the Elite x3 tends to be dense with a core, as opposed to a thin and spreading feeling. It may be a range of taste, but in any case, the current sound is the best as a smartphone equipped with Windows 10 Mobile for domestic use.

This time, I borrowed a "desk dock" at the same time as the main unit. As you can see from the photo, the dock looks like a lump of metal, weighs 455g, which is quite heavy, and you can place your smartphone very stably. The black part on the top is an attachment type and can be replaced.

Power LED at the bottom center of the front, USB 3.0 Type-C on the top side, nothing on the left side, and a lock port on the right side. Power input, Ethernet, DisplayPort, USB 3.0 x 2, USB 3.0 Type-C are placed on the back. Power is supplied by an AC adapter. Also, although there is no picture, the back is covered with rubber, so it does not slip on the desk.

Since even USB 3.0 Type-C/HDMI (or DisplayPort) single-function adapters currently on the market cost around 5,000 yen, it can be said that 12,000 yen for this content is a reasonable price.

I didn't make it in time, but a "note dock" like a notebook PC is available for 49,800 yen. Equipped with a 12.5-inch full HD display with a narrow frame and a battery that can be charged to the Elite x3. The Continuum interface supports Wi-Fi and USB Type-C. It seems interesting that it can be used on smartphones and PCs other than the Elite x3.
